Changes to former hospice shop approved

PLANS to make changes to a shop front on Stockton High Street, including access to proposed flats above the empty retail unit, have been approved by council planners.

An applicant identified only as “Coyle” asked for planning permission to make internal alterations to the four-storey building near the town hall. The retail unit on the ground floor is currently empty and was previously occupied by the Butterwick Hospice charity shop.

The proposals were for a “new powder-coated, aluminium shop front to include pedestrian access by means of a composite door to serve the upper floors”, says Stockton Council's report on the scheme. No objections were received.
