'Bird Man' loses appeal against his conviction

Brian Wilkins was given a Community Protection Order by Hartlepool Council in a bid to prevent him from scattering bread around the town, which was claimed was adding to a vermin problem.

In April, the 76-year-old was hauled before Teesside Magistrates' Court and found guilty of breaching the order by continuing to feed the birds. He was sentenced to a two-year criminal behaviour order, fined £250, ordered to pay a £100 surcharge and must pay court costs of £1,826.73.
