Banned teacher tried to get job as English tutor

A FORMER deputy head teacher who was barred from the profession after viewing child rape videos attempted to secure a position as an English tutor.
Richard Swinnerton denied engaging in “regulated activity from which barred” after he sought to participate in an activity governed by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, specifically as an English tutor for the Learning Curve Group in Hartlepool.
However, following proceedings at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court, he has been convicted of the solitary charge.
Teesside Magistrates' Court heard previously how Swinnerton, 36, applied for a teaching position but failed to reveal that he was prohibited from teaching children.
He is scheduled to be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court next month after being found guilty by District Judge Stephen Hood during proceedings on November 3.
He has been held in custody until his next court appearance.
