Art gallery plans for former jewellery store

A former H Samuel jewellery store in Middlesbrough is set to be transformed into an art gallery in the coming months.

Planning permission has been granted for the building on Linthorpe Road and councillors have been told about some of the projects set to take place over the next year to enhance the town's creative offering.

Gaye Kirby, head of culture at Middlesbrough Council and Anna Byrne, project director for Creative Factory Middlesbrough, were in attendance at a council scrutiny committee on Monday November 17, to discuss ambitions for the town.

Creative Factory has a number of missions, including long-term sustainability and investment for the cultural and creative sector, along with an ambition to develop 50,000 sq ft of "creative space".
