Transport workers press service contracting appeal

Around 200 transport workers, joined by women, youth, and drivers from various groups, staged a protest in front of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 7 office on Monday, March 23, to call for the immediate expansion of service contracting.
The protesters said service contracting is essential to ensure stable income, continuous operations, and fair support for transport workers.
They emphasized that public transport is a public good and that protecting commuters also requires protecting the workers who sustain the system.
Roberto Orilla of the National Confederation of Transport Union (NCTU) warned that the industry cannot survive without government intervention.
