“Emerging from the depths of myth and mystery...rooted in Visayan folklore, the Kugtong is said to be a human-sized creature born from the tides of time, pollution, and wonder even whispered to be the work of beings beyond this world. Feared and revered, it is a symbol of both caution and fortune,” the costume description states.

“Natasha embodies the spirit of the sea: mystical, bold, and untamed, true daughter of Lapu-Lapu’s island legacy. Kugtong is not just a tale, but a warning, a treasure, and a triumph of storytelling through fashion.”
Thelma Suzanne Dayao of San Fernando, Cebu, for her part, drew inspiration from Aman Sinaya, a Philippine sea goddess and protector of fishermen.
This was also an homage to her hometown’s Sikoy-Sikoy Festival, a celebration its rich fishing heritage.
