The importance of congressional investigations
The Freeman
|September 08, 2025
A legislative investigation involving corruption plundering our nation of over P1.3 trillion should be allowed to proceed. It’s the people's collective expression of outrage and anger against the corrupt bureaucrats, trapos, and contractors. If stopped, the Philippines may end up like Indonesia which is falling apart.
Representatives Chel Diokno and Leila de Lima shouldn’t put a monkey wrench on the legislative inquiries and allow the truth to be unearthed. These legislative inquiries are the only fora where people can look at the blatant anomalies in public works. If their motions to have the investigation done by an independent body is granted, then the peoples’ ire would be directed at them instead of Discaya, Quirante, and Arevalo.
If not for the Senate hearings on the flood control controversies, the Filipino people would have remained clueless of money spent in gambling sprees and luxury cars while millions of Filipinos are suffering.
If not for the tricom congressional inquiries not too long ago, Filipinos wouldn’t have known the multi-million confidential funds of the vice president and how our hard-earned taxes were allegedly disbursed to certain mysterious characters like Grace Piattos. Millions of our overtaxed middle-class wage earners are struggling and these scoundrels squander public funds.
