P2M worth illegal smokes seized

Around P2 million worth of illegal cigarettes were seized from a man arrested during an anti-smuggling operation conducted yesterday, in Barangay Kangwayan, Madridejos, Bantayan Island, Cebu.

Based on a report from the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO), a total of 40 master cases of assorted cigarette brands were confiscated during the operation.
CPPO identified the suspect only as alias “Anthony”, a resident of Barangay Tabagak in Madridejos who was monitored for his alleged engagement in the illegal sale of undocumented cigarettes.
On the said date, he was caught in the act of selling cigarette products without the required graphic health warnings, tax stamps, and other mandatory markings.
These indicators are prescribed under Republic Act 10643 or the Graphic Health Warnings Law of 2014.
