Over 13K pupils benefit reading program in Cebu

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 reported that the 2025 Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) in Cebu benefited 13,366 learners and released more than P25 million in cash-for-work subsidies to tutors, youth development workers, and parents or guardians nationwide since its launch in March in Cebu City.
The program, which recently concluded, highlighted the gains achieved through the joint efforts of DSWD, the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of the Interior and Local Government, local government units, state universities and colleges, and program beneficiaries.
A reformatted educational assistance initiative, Tara, Basa! enables college students to continue their studies by tutoring public school children with reading challenges.
DSWD-7 regional director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero, in her message, expressed gratitude to stakeholders and emphasized the impact of the program’s rollout.
“We will affirm the roles and responsibilities of each partner agency, and we would like to recognize them for making the program very successful in Region 7,” Lucero said.
