Following the fatal shooting incident in Barangay Tubtubon, Sibulan, Negros Oriental, involving a police officer who killed a woman and three fellow police officers, a neuropsychiatric examination for all police personnel in the province has been proposed.
-
Police Captain Stephen Jaynard Polinar, public information officer of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NORPPO), said the recommendation aims to strengthen mental wellness screening among personnel, on top of the directive of acting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. reminding officers of their commitment to discipline, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
“Number one is we really need to reiterate the ethical standards nga gina-in place sa PNP, samot na sa kaning sa mga gambling, mosulod sa mga ill-repute nga mga establishments para at least ma-remind ang mga personnel na this is prohibited place to enter,” Polinar said in a phone interview yesterday.
According to Polinar, a neuropsychiatric examination is necessary to assess the mental stability, personality, and cognitive functions of police personnel.
“We are proposing a neuropsychiatric examination sa atong mga personnel para at least maistoryahan pod nato sila,” he said.
