Micro-manufacturing eyed as Cebu's new growth path

Cebu's incoming governor, Pamela Baricuatro, has announced plans to establish investment corridors and promote micro-manufacturing across the province, outlining a policy shift aimed at broadening economic participation and driving inclusive growth beyond urban centers.

In an interview with the Bilyonaryo channel hosted by Pinky Webb, Baricuatro emphasized her administration's priority of catalyzing economic activity at the grassroots level.

She noted that Cebu's per capita income remains significantly below the national average, calling this a "clear signal" for strategic intervention.

"We know very well our province's per capita income is half the national average—economic activity here is low," Baricuatro said. "We're now thinking of micro-manufacturing as a way to spur local economies, particularly in the municipalities."

Baricuatro, who campaigned on a healthcare reform platform, is now expanding her economic agenda to include job creation, investor-friendly policies, and education reform.
