Metro Retail Stores Group empowers local farmers

May 09, 2025

Metro Retail Stores Group, Inc. (MRSGI) is expanding its partnership with non-profit Gulay Farmers as part of a broader push to secure local supply chains, support small-holder producers, and enhance sustainability in its fresh produce sourcing.

The initiative gives small-scale farmers direct access to MRSGI’s retail network under its in-house fresh produce label, Q. The arrangement ensures farmers benefit from stable pricing, reduced wastage, and long-term market access—core tenets of MRSGI’s farm-to-shelf strategy.

Since its inception in 2020, the partnership has delivered tangible results. Roughly 500 farmers are now supplying over 60,000 tons of local produce annually to eight Metro Retail branches in Cebu. The program is part of a broader commitment by MRSGI to drive inclusive growth and reduce dependency on intermediaries in the country’s fragmented agricultural value chain.
