Mayor Archival unveils 19 big projects for 2026

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival shifted from recounting the 144 projects accomplished in his first six months in office to unveiling 19 "big-ticket" undertakings that will define Cebu City's executive agenda for 2026.

The mayor described these projects as pillars of the Cebu City 2035 roadmap, designed to make the city leaner, smarter, and more inclusive.

Among his top priorities is the segregation of waste and its conversion into fertilizer and other sustainable uses.

The mayor explained to members of the media present at City Hall yesterday, and online via the City's Public Information Office (PIO) page, that the city currently spends hundreds of millions of pesos on landfill costs, and that diverting waste toward productive ends would both reduce expenses and create a cleaner environment.

Complementing this are measures requiring rainwater catchment systems in barangay gymnasiums and the use of permeable materials in outdoor parking areas, both aimed at mitigating flooding in urban communities.

Aside from these, energy reform is another priority of the administration.

Mayor Archival also committed to replacing conventional streetlights with solar-powered lamps, noting that Cebu City spends ₱14 million monthly on electricity and that even a partial shift could save nearly a third of that amount.
