Mandatory septic tanks for backyard hog raisers

Small backyard hog raisers in Cebu City will soon be required to construct their own septic tanks in a bid to reduce fecal coliform contamination in the city’s rivers.

To address the growing concern, Engr. Myka Llanos of the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) said they have reactivated the Septic Management Board, a special body under the Office of the Mayor tasked with monitoring septic waste. She emphasized that septic waste is a major contributor to the city’s high fecal coliform levels.
