Baricuatro stressed that LGUs have the authority to impose sanctions on establishments found imposing illegal or unjustified price increases, especially on necessities and prime commodities.
"If makita nila nga nagkahiusa ta, and naa tay mga price monitoring councils, deterrent gyod ni siya sa pagtaas sa presyo. Kamo ang pwede mosilot ani nila," the governor said.
The move is seen as part of broader efforts by the provincial government to tighten price monitoring mechanisms, particularly amid concerns that global developments such as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could affect the prices of essential commodities, including rice, fuel, and other basic goods.
Collectively, officials said strengthening LPCCs would allow faster monitoring of markets and retail establishments across the province.
Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan, who heads the 44-member League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) in Cebu, said the initiative will be taken up as a priority among local chief executives.
Suan said the mayors are expected to meet by Monday next week to formalize the plan, to have LPCCs in municipalities fully reactivated by Tuesday.
