IN MANDAUE CITY 3 school bldgs declared unsafe after M6.9 quake

The Department of Education (DepEd) Mandaue City Division reported that three school buildings were declared unsafe for use following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Cebu.

DepEd Mandaue City Administrative Officer Dr. Edgar Espina said on Monday, October 13, that two buildings at Looc Elementary School and one building at Mandaue City Central School were issued notices by the Office of the Building Official (OBO) after structural assessments.
Espina assured that the remaining 14 of the 16 affected schools sustained only minor damage.
At Looc Elementary School, one building reportedly tilted, while at Mandaue City Central School, a column developed visible cracks.
Following the recent 7.4-magnitude quake that hit Davao Oriental on Friday, October 10, DepEd is set to reinspect the affected school buildings.
DepEd Mandaue City Division Superintendent Dr. Bianito A. Dagatan said they have already requested the Office of the Mayor to coordinate with the OBO for an official joint inspection.
