Heart disease, cancer, stroke lead causes of death in early 2025

Ischemic heart disease, neoplasms, and cerebrovascular diseases emerged as the leading causes of death in the Philippines from January to April 2025, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

In a press statement, PSA Undersecretary, National Statistician, and Civil Registrar General Claire Dennis Mapa said the ranking of the top causes of death during the first four months of the year remained consistent with data from the same period in 2024.

Ischemic heart diseases topped the list with 40,532 deaths, accounting for 20% of the total deaths nationwide. Neoplasms, which include various types of cancer, ranked second with 22,837 deaths or 11.3% of all recorded deaths.
