Danao refuses DPWH projects

Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano has refused to issue permits for several projects the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has proposed for Danao City in 2026, citing concerns over the re-concreting of roads that remain in good and serviceable condition.
-
“Naa pa may lain nga angay’ng sementuhon nga karsada sa Danao, nganong gub-on man ang maayo pa?” the mayor said after reviewing the proposed projects for next year.
The city's position was reiterated by Vice Mayor Ivy Durano during a recent press briefing, where she noted that the projects submitted by the DPWH were not aligned with the city's priority needs.
"Sad to note, the projects submitted by the DPWH to Mayor Nito for 2026 are not priority projects of the city," Vice Mayor Durano said.
She explained that officials from the DPWH 5th District paid a courtesy call on Mayor Durano to seek a “permit to proceed” for their proposed undertakings.
However, assessments and inspection reports from the Danao City Engineering Office showed that most of the projects involved re-concreting roads that are still serviceable.
As a result, Mayor Durano did not approve the proposals and declined to issue the necessary permits.
Vice Mayor Durano added that the mayor has formally written to the Office of the President to outline Danao City's priority infrastructure needs, particularly the rehabilitation and reconstruction of bridges and flood-mitigation structures damaged or washed out during Typhoon Tino.
