Council okays hiring of private hauler

The Mandaue City Council has authorized Mayor Thadeo Jovito Ouano to engage a private hauling firm to ensure the continued collection and disposal of the city's garbage following the suspension of operations at the Binaliw landfill.

The authority was granted during a special council session on Thursday, January 22, through the ratification of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) entered into by the mayor with Infinite Hauling Services.

Under the MOA, the city tapped Infinite Trading for emergency waste hauling and disposal for a fixed period of three months, from January 15 to April 15, 2026.

The contract sets a disposal fee of P3.25 per kilogram, exclusive of value-added tax, with weekly billing upon submission of a statement of account. Payments are due within 15 calendar days. The total cost of the contract is estimated at around P60 million for the three-month period.

In an interview, Councilor Joel Seno said the agreement was meant to address the city's immediate garbage problem in the aftermath of what he described as the "trashslide" at the Binaliw landfill.
