CERA calls for urgent power restoration in Mactan areas

A Cebu-based consumer watchdog is urging the Mactan Electric Company (MECO) to accelerate the restoration of electricity across Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova, following extended outages that have disrupted businesses, strained households, and stalled public services after recent storms.

The Cebu Electricity Rights Advocates (CERA) said power supply in parts of MECO’s franchise area has remained unreliable for days, resulting in lost income for local enterprises and hardship for residents still recovering from the weather disturbance.

Hospitals, water pumping stations, and communications facilities have struggled to maintain normal operations, deepening public frustration.

“Reliability is directly correlated to livelihood, health, and public safety,” said CERA convenor Nathaniel Chua.
