Capitol fights fake news on Kawasan

The individuals identified were Elsy Jore Imperial of Tabuelan, Cebu; Rotalia Cabotaje Oponda of Mandaue City; Alexan Alimbon Masangay of Davao City; Robinson Velasco Jr. of Mexico, Pampanga; and Marlene Salazar Alejandro of Minglanilla, Cebu.

The resolution demanded that each individual issue a public retraction and a written apology within seven days. It warned that failure to comply could result in them being declared persona non grata under Municipal Ordinance No. 11, Series of 2023.

As of press time, two of them — Imperial and Masangay --- have issued public apologies through their respective social media accounts.

The local government said these actions should serve as a reminder that freedom of expression must be exercised with responsibility and truthfulness. “Let this serve as a reminder that freedom of expression carries with it the duty to uphold truth, respect, and accountability,” the municipal statement read.
