One of the rules of Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) is that housemates are not allowed to write anything.

That did not stop the late Bisaya reggae singer Budoy Marabiles from crafting his song “Maligo Na,” which became the house’s de facto call time for housemates to take a shower.

“Big Brother always highlights the talents of his housemates, and Budoy’s songwriting and singing skills were among his strengths,” PBB business unit head Marcus Vinuya told The FREEMAN. “That’s why Kuya allowed him to compose inside the house and record the song as well.”

The song was later included as “Maligo Na Jam” in the “PBB: Celebrity Edition” soundtrack, featuring fellow housemates Rico Robles and Roxanne Barcelo. The album also featured “Budoy Ako,” his Bisaya version of the show’s theme song “Pinoy Ako,” originally performed by Orange and Lemons.

Marabiles passed away in Oslob, south of Cebu, on December 4 at the age of 54 due to cardiac arrest. A wake was held at his business venture, Sigbin Haus, located at Eden Resort in Santander, also south of Cebu.
