On September 28 at 11 a.m., outgoing Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will preside over Mass at the Cathedral as Apostolic Administrator, a symbolic farewell marking the closing of his governance.

Father Mhar Balili, secretary general of the Archdiocese, said Palma will formally administer the Rite of Fidelity to Archbishop Uy during the installation rites and will also deliver a thanksgiving message to the faithful.

“Archbishop Palma will help facilitate the transition and give his words of gratitude to the people of Cebu, who have journeyed with him throughout his years of service,” Balili said.

Archbishop Uy will arrive in Cebu from Bohol at around 4:00 p.m. today (Sept. 28) and will be welcomed at the Cebu Port by Archbishop Palma, provincial and city officials, led by Governor Pamela Baricuatro and the mayors of Cebu City, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, alongside other dignitaries.

The Archdiocese is inviting parishioners to participate in the welcome rites on September 28, noting that Cathedral seating on the day of the installation will be very limited.

“This Saturday gathering will allow more parishioners to take part in welcoming Archbishop Uy,” Msgr. Marnell Mejia said, head of the Welcome Committee.

Mejia also notified that 11 barangays along the designated routes and mobilized volunteer groups and parish leaders to help ensure the smooth flow of the celebration.

After formal greetings, a choir of 69-70 singers, drawn from parish choirs across Cebu and led by Fr. John Burgos of San Carlos Seminary College, will render a hymn specially composed for the occasion. Archbishop Uy will then be presented with a token of welcome before beginning the motorcade.
