ACCORDING TO IMEE: Free funeral services to ease burial costs

Poor Filipino families will no longer have to sell property or borrow money to bury their loved ones, following the enactment of Republic Act No. 12309, also known as the “Free Funeral Services Act.”

The measure, authored and championed by Senator Imee R. Marcos, mandates free funeral services for families living below the poverty threshold nationwide.
Under the new law, essential funeral services—including the provision of a casket, wake arrangements, cremation or traditional burial, and transportation of remains—will be provided at no cost to qualified beneficiaries.
