2 Cebuano players make final cut for Gilas Youth U16 team

Two young and promising Cebuano basketball players formed part of the 18-man roster of Gilas Pilipinas Youth for the FIBA Under 16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers slated on May 24-30 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
They are Nickson Andwele Cabañero of Lapu-Lapu City and Sacred Godwyn Toring of Cebu City.
Cabañero, who suits up for the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tiger Cubs, was named to the Mythical Five in last year's UAAP Season 87 with an average of 16.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.7 steals per game. They reached the Finals but lost eventual champions University of the East (UE) Junior Warriors.
The 5-foot-11 Cabañero is younger brother of UST 'King Tiger' Nic Cabañero. Their father Dominic Cabañero is currently the head coach of the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors Under 15 team.
