An Indian Air Force (IAF) Tejas fighter jet crashed during a high-speed aerobatic demonstration at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, killing the pilot and casting a pall of grief over one of the world's largest aviation exhibitions.
The fatal crash occurred in the afternoon local time during an aerial display that had drawn thousands of spectators, many of whom watched in horror as the light combat aircraft plunged to the ground and erupted into a fireball.
The IAF confirmed the tragedy on its official X handle, stating: “An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at Dubai Air Show, today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief.” It added that a Court of Inquiry has been constituted to determine the cause of the crash.
