Ministries streamlined for action
The Free Press Journal
|September 24, 2025
In a bid to streamline disaster management and reduce casualties, the Union Home Ministry has formally designated specific ministries and departments to act as nodal agencies for various natural and man-made hazards.
The move aims to create a coordinated national framework for monitoring, early warning, prevention, mitigation and preparedness, ensuring minimum disruption and damage during emergencies.
The notification invokes powers under DISASTER MANAGEMENT Section 35 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. It mandates that the assigned ministries take full responsibility for preparedness, capacity building and timely response to disasters within their domain.
