Dhaka detains Hindu monk
The Free Press Journal
|November 26, 2024
Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a Hindu priest and a religious minority leader in Bangladesh, who is also a member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was taken into custody by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.
-
The detention was based on a complaint but the police did not provide details. Sources said it was related to a sedition case filed against 19 people on charges of disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag. The reference was to an incident on October 25, when a group of youth reportedly placed a saffron coloured flag over the Bangladeshi flag on a pillar during a rally organised by the Hindu community.
