Question raised over BMC’s plan to hand over Govandi’s new hosp to pvt players; locals fear costly treatment
Amit Srivastava MUMBAI Residents of Govandi and nearby areas are increasingly frustrated over the delay in opening the newly constructed Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Shatabdi Hospital.
Despite the completion of its construction, the facility remains non-operational, fuelling local discontent. The BMC attributes the delay to the ongoing process of handing over the hospital to private institutions under the PublicPrivate Partnership (PPP) model, a strategy also applied to other civic hospitals and services.
The BMC has received proposals from three private institutions to operate the hospital, with a senior civic health official stating that one eligible bidder will be selected soon based on BMC's criteria.
