PRESENTED TO ASSEMBLY | High-powered panel report on Centre-State relations

- HD Bureau

Chief minister M K Stalin has placed a renewed demand for greater devolution of powers at the heart of state politics, tabling a High-Level Committee report on Union-State relations in the legislative assembly and arguing that federal balance is vital for India’s democratic and developmental future.

Presenting the report on Wednesday, Stalin described the move as “belling the cat” and asked, “If we cannot do it, then who can?” He said powers had steadily accumulated with the Union government over the years and called for a reexamination of the constitutional and administrative framework governing Centre-state relations.
