SRA implements key policy reforms in Brihanmumbai

SRA's commitment to transparency and accessibility is reflected in its many citizen-focused initiatives.

Proactive disclosure of information has been a significant step forward. By uploading over 4.64 crore pages of documents to the official website, the authority has made vast amounts of data available to the public. This move has directly led to a 30 to 40 percent reduction in Right to Information (RTI) applications, as citizens can now access information freely without resorting to formal requests.

To ensure that grievances are heard directly, SRA has introduced the “Janata Darbar”, a public hearing system conducted every Tuesday and Thursday. Citizens can present their problems in person, and officials address them on the spot. This system strengthens trust and provides assurance that voices from the grassroots level are being heard.

The Online Legal Heir Application System has simplified one of the most challenging processes for slum families. The new system enables digital applications, reducing inconvenience and ensuring accountability. Similarly, the Online Land Acquisition System has brought greater efficiency to the process of acquiring land for redevelopment, reducing both time and corruption risks.

Housing allotment for Project-Affected Persons has also moved ahead at a steady pace, with 2,642 PAP houses already handed over. For families displaced due to city development, this provides not only a roof but also security and dignity. A Disaster Management Cell, established in coordination with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), ensures that families living in unsafe, disaster-prone zones are relocated in a timely manner. Landslide-prone areas have been surveyed, and Annexure-II has been prepared for almost all of them, ensuring quick rehabilitation during emergencies.
