HC upholds Rs.200 cap on movie tickets, rejects plea to lift stay

The Karnataka High Court as refused to lift the interim stay on the state government's order capping movie ticket prices at Rs.200 across all languages and theatres, including multiplexes.

The division bench comprising Justices Suraj Govindaraj and Rajesh Rai issued the ruling while hearing appeals filed by film bodies and individuals challenging the earlier single-judge stay.

The court directed multiplexes to maintain detailed monthly records of ticket collections and submit them to the government by the 15th of each month. If the final verdict goes against the Multiplex Association of India, theatres must refund any amount collected beyond Rs.200 to customers.
