‘Kingpin’ N V Thakkar allegedly revealed he procured precious metal from Kolhapur and Sangli as well
A day after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted a major gold-smuggling syndicate and arrested 11 people along with Rsl5 crore gold, the alleged kingpin on Wednesday revealed that he procured the precious metal from contacts and clients based in Dubai, Kolhapur, Sangli and other parts of Maharashtra.
The illicit gold was then melted, adulterated and embossed with 'VS Gold’ and "RG Gold’ markings to show them as Indian-origin bars, which were then sold off, said ‘kingpin’ N V Thakkar in his statement. He is a repeat offender named in multiple cases lodged in Patna and Mumbai, said a DRI official.
