The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has instructed Chief Education Officers to initiate firm measures against teachers inciting caste sentiments among pupils, including transferring offenders to other institutions if warranted.

This directive follows a one-person inquiry led by former Madras High Court judge K. Chandru, which found several educators were encouraging caste-based divisions in schools.

The department has called for thorough investigation of such complaints and decisive administrative action.

Officials have defended the decision as essential to uphold equality and harmony in classrooms.
