Shutdown pressure: Mass firings of federal workers commence

The Trump administration has begun the mass firings of federal workers or “RIFs” (reduction-in-force) in an aggressive move to pressure Democratic lawmakers as the government shutdown enters its tenth day.
Russ Vought, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, confirmed the firings on social media, stating the reductions are “substantial” but providing few details. Notices are set to be issued to employees at Departments of Education, Treasury, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and the EPA.
