Mid-April, single-phase TN Assembly poll likely

Tamil Nadu is moving towards an Assembly election in the second week of April, with polling expected on April 13 in a single phase, according to the emerging election calendar.

- HD Bureau

The final electoral roll for the state is scheduled for publication on February 17, a procedural milestone that typically signals the closing stages of pre-poll preparation.

The election in Tamil Nadu forms part of a wider cycle of Assembly contests due in April-May across five states, alongside Puducherry, Kerala, West Bengal, and Assam.

The official schedule is expected to be announced by the Election Commission of India by the end of this month or in early March, setting off the formal campaign period.

A single-phase poll in Tamil Nadu would be consistent with the state’s administrative capacity and voter logistics, given its comparatively high levels of urbanisation and polling infrastructure.
