Strategic move, claims Isaac

- HD Bureau

The state government and the ruling party are exploring all ways to overcome the impasse created by CPI's opposition to the PM SHRI scheme, including the reconsideration of the scheme's implementation.

The change in approach follows a clear directive from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who took a firm step to resolve the discord between the LDF allies.

Reports indicate that the CM feared the escalating rift would severely damage the coalition's unity and hamper the chances of LDF candidates in the upcoming local body elections. As the party braces for these elections, the stakes have only grown higher, necessitating swift action to quell dissent within the coalition.

The CPI has so far refused to budge, with party national general secretary D Raja declaring that his party has already expressed its views on the subject and no it is up to the CPM to do the needful. He reiterated that the CPI cannot agree to the LDF government agreeing to implement the controversial central scheme.

A crucial meeting of the CPI's state executive is being held on Monday to decide the party's final decision on the issue, which will have far reaching implications both for the LDF and the government.
