Congress strengthens position in Council

Cong has clear numerical majority and influence

The ruling Congress party has gained a significant advantage in the Legislative Council by nominating four new members, giving it a clear numerical majority and enhanced influence over future proceedings.

With a total strength of 75 members, the recent nominations have tipped the balance in Congress’ favor.

The party now holds 37 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 29, the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) has 7, and there is one independent member and the Chairman. This shift positions Congress to assert greater control over legislative decisions and the overall functioning of the Council.
