Cong leader alleges caste snub

A public dispute has erupted as K.Selvaperunthagai, the MP for Sriperumbudur and President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, claimed that he was deliberately excluded from a ceremonial release of surplus water from the ChembarambakkamLake reservoir near Chennai and alleged caste prejudice by officials.

The reservoir management had opened a release of 500 cusecs of water following heavy rain but, according to Selvaperunthagai, neither he nor local people’s representatives were informed in advance of the action.
