Forest officials claim that they were pressured by a senior government official to favour actor Mohanlal in a high-profile ivory possession case, raising questions about procedural integrity and enforcement of wildlife laws in the state.
Former Chief Wildlife Warden of Kerala, Surendrakumar, has alleged that Tom Jose, who was serving as Chief Secretary at the time, instructed him to help Mohanlal in his case.
The claim points to possible political interference in what should have been an impartial decision-making process under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
