Cultural and Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian has criticised a growing trend of polarising politics in the state, citing fresh flashpoints over a Zumba programme in schools and the Central Board of Film Certification's objection to the title of the film Janaki v/s State of Kerala.

Speaking in Alappuzha on Wednesday, he accused various groups of driving wedges into society by targeting both fitness and cinema under communal motives. Cherian claimed that opposition to Zumba—introduced by the General Education Department as part of an anti-drugs campaign—originated from "certain Muslim groups" invoking moral objections.
