Traditional Vaishnava acharyas form a unified assembly

A collective of hereditary Acharyas and Jeeyars from 74 lineages linked to Ramanujacharya has established the Bhagavad Ramanujar Thennacharya Sampradaya Sabha through an event at the Kamaraj Memorial Hall.

The gathering, held this week, marks the first time such a broad spectrum of traditional mutts and thirumaligais have formally come together under the framework of Ramanuja’s vision. At the event, convenor V. Narayanan stated that the organisation will serve as a bridge within the Thenkalai sect of the Sri Vaishnava tradition and foster dialogue with adherents of other faiths.The Sabha brings into alignment lineages tracing their authority to Ramanuja’s 74 Simhasanadhipati seats, a network of hereditary leadership that has overseen pivotal monastic and ritual lineages in the Sri Vaishnava tradition.

Narayanan emphasised that historically each of these seats worked independently, guiding their devotees in discrete institutional forms. The BRTSS aims to change that by providing a common platform for coordination, mutual support and unified representation of the Thenkalai subsect.
