Court orders temple chariot to go through SC habitations

The Madras High Court has delivered a significant ruling in a case involving the traditional procession of a temple car in Puthagaram village, Kancheepuram district.

Justice P. B. Balaji issued an order directing that the temple car be drawn through Scheduled Caste habitations, rejecting objections based on caste considerations. The decision marks a notable intervention in the longstanding customs surrounding the temple procession.

The temple car, used in the religious processions of the local village temple, had followed a specific route for decades, bypassing certain areas inhabited by the SC community. A faction of caste Hindus argued that there was no reason to alter the age-old path, suggesting that the car's journey should continue along its established route without deviation.
