Wildlife Safaris in India beyond Ranthambore and Jim Corbett
The Daily Guardian
|June 02, 2025
Satpura is one of the few parks in India where walking safaris and canoe rides are permitted, offering an immersive and eco-conscious approach to wildlife viewing. Located in the Hoshangabad district, it's rich in biodiversity — from leopards and Indian giant squirrels to Malabar whistling thrushes.

When it comes to wildlife safaris in India, Ranthambore and Jim Corbett often steal the spotlight. While these parks are popular for their tiger sightings and accessibility, India is home to a wide array of lesser-known wildlife sanctuaries and national parks that offer equally thrilling — and often more intimate — safari experiences. If you're looking to explore India's wild side beyond the tourist circuits, here are some offbeat safari destinations that deserve a spot on your bucket list.
1. TADOBA ANDHARI TIGER RESERVE, MAHARASHTRA - THE LAND OF THE BOLD TIGERS Tucked away in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, Tadoba is often referred to as the "Jewel of Vidarbha." Unlike the overcrowded safari zones of other parks, Tadoba offers a quieter, rawer experience with high chances of spotting tigers, sloth bears, Indian bison (gaur), and leopards. The dry deciduous forests and bamboo groves make for great visibility, giving photographers and wildlife lovers ample opportunity for dramatic shots.
Best time to visit: February to May.
