Why Jiribam in Manipur is burning, again

On the night of October 7, a tragic incident left the small community of Zairon Hmar village in shock and grief. An armed attack claimed the life of a mother of three and reduced several homes to ashes.

The victim, identified as Zosangkim, was the wife of Ngurthansang, a resident of Zairon Hmar. She lost her life in the horrifying onslaught, with her home set ablaze in the violence that engulfed her in flames. Her death leaves her husband and three young children in mourning, grappling with the intense loss and trauma of the brutal attack.

Further, seven homes were set on fire by the attackers, displacing multiple families and leaving only charred remnants of what once was their village. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as flames consumed homes, turning a peaceful evening into a nightmare. The authorities are yet to identify the perpetrators of the attack. Worsening of situation The situation in Jiribam has escalated further with the reported death of 12 people on November 11.
