Vaishno Devi Yatra remains suspended for 20th day, pilgrims protest at Katra Base camp
The Daily Guardian
|September 15, 2025
The pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi atop Trikuta hills in Reasi district remained suspended for the 20th consecutive day on Sunday due to inclement weather, prompting a group of restless pilgrims to stage a protest at the Katra base camp, officials said.

The yatra was halted on August 26, just hours before a massive landslide struck the route, killing 34 pilgrims and injuring 20 others. While the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board had initially announced the resumption of the pilgrimage from September 14, incessant rains along the track and near the sanctum sanctorum since Friday forced a rethink on safety grounds.
