US SEES INDIA AS NEW GLOBAL POWER CENTRE

Mf India’s role in pharmaceuticals, critical minerals and future technologies is fast becoming central to the deepening India-US strategic partnership.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Friday said pharmaceuticals, critical minerals and emerging technologies were now central to the growing India-US strategic partnership, as Washington viewed New Delhi as a trusted partner in building resilient global supply chains.

Addressing the US-India TRUST Initiative event, titled Advancing Partnership in Research and Innovation, at IIT Delhi, Gor said India's role in pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and quantum technologies reflected its emergence as a major global power centre.

"One of the things this administration has done is identifying new centres of power. To me, to the President, to the administration, the importance of India is now," Gor said.

The US envoy placed particular emphasis on India's pharmaceutical manufacturing strength, noting that nearly 40 per cent of generic medicines used in the United States are sourced from India. He said this reflected Washington's trust in India for "critical, literally lifesaving" supplies.
