TRANSPORTERS AGREE TO RESUME WORK AFTER DAY OF CHAOS ACROSS INDIA

After day-long chaos and rush at fuel stations on the second day of a nationwide strike by transporters to protest the new hit-and-run law, the Centre and the protestors agreed that transport workers will resume their work immediately. Transporters went on strike over a provision of the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said a discussion was held with All India Motor Transport Congress representatives and said the new rules pertaining to hit-and-run cases under the BNS have not been implemented yet. “We had discussion with All India Motor Transport Congress representatives, govt want to say that the new rule has not been implemented yet, we all want to say that before implementing Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 106 (2), we will have a discussion with All India Motor Transport Congress representatives and then only we will take a decision,” he said.

HAPUR: With the nationwide transportation strike against the new law on hit-and-run cases entering its second day on Tuesday, General VK Singh (Retd), Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, said that the new laws have been made to alert the vehicle drivers and for the safety of the passengers. "Passengers should not face problems. The new law has been devised to help the passengers. Earlier, drivers used to run away, now a new law has been made to alert the drivers and for the safety of passengers, VK Singh said. the Protests have broken out in several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, against the high penalties for hit-and-run accidents under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which is set to replace the colonialera Indian Penal Code.
