TN BJP chief Annamalai, key leaders detained

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai and several other senior party leaders were detained by the police in Chennai on Monday ahead of their protest against the alleged Rs 1,000 crore irregularities at the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) headquarters.
The BJP had announced a state-wide protest over the alleged scam, which was earlier highlighted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Annamalai alleged that the ED's Rs 1,000 crore estimate was just the "tip of the iceberg" and claimed the actual amount involved could be as high as Rs 40,000 crore.
"This Rs 1,000 crore is the tip of the iceberg... this protest will not only shake up Tamil Nadu politics but will pave the way for ushering in good politics. My guess is this scam will be worth Rs 40,000 crore. But I am in a responsible position, so I am quoting the Rs 1,000 crore mentioned by the ED," he told reporters.
