Stats Say Much Success in Reining in Organised Crime in Haryana

It is still a long road ahead

The Haryana police has launched a crackdown on the gangsters involved in the organised crime in the state. However, making the state free from the organised crime remains an uphill task.

The state police and the Special Task Force (STF), specially formed to deal with the crime syndicates and gangsters, is battling a deepening crisis of organised crime as the state grapples with the operations of over 50 active gangster syndicates that have entrenched themselves across districts and expanded their reach beyond borders.

Following several incidents of organised crime, especially they selectively targeted the liquor contractors forcing the authorities to delay the auctions of liquor vends in several zones, the STF has intensified its crackdown, arresting dozens of dreaded gangsters, rewarded criminals, and heinous offenders in what officials describe as one of the most significant offensives against crime syndicates in recent years.

The current year's trends show a marked improvement in gangster-specific operations. There's still a long road ahead though. In 2024, STF had made record progress with 195 rewarded criminals and 397 heinous offenders arrested by the end of the year—a significant rise from the 175 and 200 arrested respectively in 2023.
